Lucerne

Known as Lucerne or “Leuchtenstadt” or "The City of Light" in German, Lucerne is undoubtedly what would be my no-brainer pick if told I was only able to visit one city in Switzerland. The beckoning Alps, the old taverns, the ancient monasteries, there's such an abundance of "wow" packed into such a seemingly small place. The summers are every bit as scenic as the winters and it's quite easy to see why it's been a top-pick for European royalty from all over the continent for centuries.

Teach A Man To Fish...

Humble Origins

Lucerne was originally a fishing village before it blossomed into the scenic city centre it is today. In the early mornings you can always catch a small wooden boat or two with the silhouette of a happy soul casting away on the calm waters

Or Something Like That

Accidental Success

Lucerne was one of the few European cities to experience the Industrial Revolution in its latter stages. As a result, you'll find more of a maintained beauty in the architecture that hasn't been altered to suit domineering mass production or factories
